Your home away from home on beautiful Long Lake
Welcome to Island View Cottage! This property is very close to our hearts — Cheryl grew up spending summers here with cousins, playing in the forest and swimming in the lake. We've lovingly maintained it for guests like you to enjoy the same magic.
You're nestled right on Long Lake, surrounded by trees, birdsong, and fresh air. Paddle out to explore the 5 small islands, listen for the loons at dawn, or simply relax on the deck and take in the sunset. We sincerely hope you have a wonderful stay — please don't hesitate to call or text us anytime.

Everything you need to know for a smooth check-in and check-out
Smart lock — enter your code from your booking confirmation. Park in the lot on the right of the entrance (space for 2–3 vehicles).
Please notify the hosts when you depart.
We're in cottage country — please be respectful of nature, neighbours, and this special place
Flush only natural waste and toilet paper. No paper towels, Kleenex, tampons, matches, hair, grease or oils. These will back up the system.
No oils, grease, or fats down any drain. Dispose of cooking grease in the garbage only.
After 10:00 PM — this includes campfires, music, and loud conversation. Please be considerate of neighbours.
Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage. Dispose of cigarette butts safely outside the property (e.g., in a tin can).
Turn off exterior lights when not needed — they attract insects and bugs at the lake!
No breakable items (glasses, glass bottles) at the dock area. No cans on the floating dock — wind will blow them into the lake.
Use the designated fire pit only. Keep fires small. Never leave unattended. Douse completely with water. Check for Tay Valley fire bans before lighting.
Use regular firewood only — no artificial logs or foreign materials. Keep door closed while fire is active. Do not cut trees on the property.
Clean the grill after each use. Open lid before igniting. Always turn off both the BBQ valve AND the propane tank valve when finished.
No pets on property without prior host approval. Please contact Craig or Cheryl before bringing any animals.
Do not rearrange furniture. Sit on furniture only in dry clothing — no wet bathing suits. Remove sand and shoes before entering.
Keep screen doors closed. Store food in the fridge. Wipe counters each night. You're in the forest — bugs and wildlife are neighbours here!
Life jackets are required by law — one per person when boating. Check the inventory list for available life jackets at the cottage.
Rinse recyclables before placing under the kitchen sink. Never leave garbage outside the cottage. Full bags go in the green shed.
Cottage communities look out for one another. If a neighbour asks who you are, let them know you're guests of Craig & Cheryl Gillieson.
Report any damage immediately upon arrival or occurrence. Guests are responsible for damage during their stay. A security deposit may be applied.
We're in the forest — ticks are active when temperatures are above 4°C
Wear light-coloured clothing to spot ticks more easily. Do a full tick check every time you come back indoors.
A flat tick has likely been attached less than 24 hours (lower risk). A fat, engorged tick may have been feeding longer — consult your doctor if this is the case.
Watch for a bull's-eye rash, fever, headache, or fatigue 3–30 days after a bite. Seek medical attention at Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital: (613) 267-1500.
At the cottage and beyond
42" HDTV with Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, plus hundreds of DVD movies and a sound system with Bluetooth.
Books and reading material, board games, and all the peace and quiet cottage country has to offer.
Canoe, pedal boat, 2 stand-up paddleboards, and 2 kayaks — all included for your stay.
Swim off the dock, paddle out to the floating raft, or make your way to the jump-off rock island. Long Lake at its finest!
